This past Wednesday, from 7 to 8 p.m., 51 new members were inducted into East’s National Honors Society.
The night started off with a quick address from our principal Ms Fisher, then a speech from the keynote speaker, Superintendent Melissa Baker, who congratulated the new members and stressed the importance passing on positivity by showing a video titled “Don’t Give Up, Give Back”, a saying of a non profit organization started by Elizabeth Hope for her sister Olivia called “Livy’s Hope.”
Co-adviser of NHS, Mr. Schmitz, then reminded the soon-to-be inductees that the meaning of NHS extends far beyond “your name on a roster or a cord you wear at graduation.” He stressed it is a culmination of the four founding pillars: leadership, character, service, and scholarship.
The new officers were soon after inducted into their positions.
Lastly, the new members were given a membership pin, and were officially inducted, each holding a lighted candle, and reciting the official NHS pledge.
After the ceremony concluded snacks and certificates were given out and pictures were taken.
