For the boys South Lyon East Varsity Bowling Team, excitement is in the air. As the season comes to a close, regionals for individuals and teams are going to put them to the test.
“We’ve spent a lot of time preparing,” says bowling team member Luke Erwin, a Senior at South Lyon East. “We practice about 1 or 2 times week if we have an upcoming tournament or meet. At the start of the season we practice 3-5 days a week.”
Erwin has been a loyal member of the team for multiple years. It’s one of his favorite activities, and he owes his success to his father, who encouraged him to join.
Senior student at SLE and teammate Dalton Cherry adds, “We practice for fun even on days we don’t have to practice. I love bowling because my teammates are great guys, they’re inspirational. They always cheer me up when I’m down.”
A recent rival game on February 4 took place at Pinz, with South Lyon High taking home the victory. However, to the team, a loss is never taken to heart. It’s all about trying their best, and pushing forward.
Their next upcoming event will be a tournament at Century Bowl in Waterford Township, taking place on Friday, February 15, with the time to still be announced.
“When we win, we always celebrate with lots of smiles and lots of photos.” adds Erwin. “We may seem really underrated, but our scores say otherwise. We work really hard and always stay positive. Even if you just want to try it, it’s not hard at all. And if you really try, you can have a lot more fun.” He encourages to those who are considering trying out for next season.
“It doesn’t matter about how much experience you have,” Advises Cherry. “It’s all about keeping a positive mental attitude, no matter what sport you play. I started when I was six years old, but we all started with bumpers at one point.”
Their final games will conclude the season on March 1 and March 2. You can find out more about their schedule and upcoming news HERE.
