‘Blockbuster season is coming up this year, and there’s going to be a lot of movies to look out for in 2019. For film fanatics, or for people who just like to catch a movie here and there, these are some highly anticipated movies to expect this spring and summer.
If you are debating whether to watch a movie on the big screens, or to wait until it is released to watch at home, Liam Fitzgerald, Supervisor at Emagine Novi Theater, suggests, “Seeing a movie in a movie theater is how the creator intended you to see it. This lets you give accurate feedback in what you did/didn’t like in the movie. It’s like seeing Mad Max: okay off the TV speaker, but spectacular in theaters, since it was specifically tuned for Dolby Atmos sound systems.”
Many of these movies will be in high demand, especially on opening weekend, so buy tickets online. “[It’s] less hassle!” says Fitzgerald.
Captain Marvel made $455 million worldwide on the opening weekend of March 8, Emagine Novi itself seeing 6000+ people over the 4 days (Thurs-Sun). So expect a whirlwind from Marvel fans for Avengers: Endgame, the fourth Avengers movie that will come out on April 26.
Tom Holland fans will be happy to hear that spider man will be feeling better and has another movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, released after Endgame, on July 5.
And if you’re more of a DC fan, Shazam! debuts April 5.
Stephen King fans beware as well. A remake of Pet Sematary will come out on April 5, as well as It: Chapter 2 which comes out late summer (September 6.)
If you love Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool, and you have a love for the adorable and fierce Pokemon characters, then anticipate his role as Pikachu in the upcoming film, Detective Pikachu, which hits theaters May 10.
“The Pokemon keep true to original design and seems interesting. I’m excited to see how it turns out,” says student Kyle Pierron, who is a Pokemon enthusiast.
Disney will be busy, as always, not only releasing Marvel movies but recreating some classics as well, such as a live action Lion King movie which comes out July 2019. It features voices such as Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, and Donald Glover.
Michelle Spackman, visual imaging teacher at Oakland Schools Technical Campus, can barely hold her enthusiasm for the movie, “I was a little kid when [the animated] Lion King came out, it was the first movie my parents took me to see in theaters. I have huge nostalgia for the movie and I’ve always wanted to see it live action. Nothing can take my excitement for this movie!”
Another classic Disney is making a live action of is Aladdin, coming to theaters May 24. Robin William’s legacy as the genie will be continued by Will Smith.
Disney is also releasing another Toy Story, which comes out on June 21, bringing some lovable characters back onto the big screen.
