Homecoming Week is one of the most memorable weeks of the school year; students get to show their school spirit and have a good time.
Homecoming Spirit Week 2019 kicked off with pajama day. Students wore their coziest pajamas on Monday, their favorite jersey on Tuesday and their beach attire on Wednesday. Thursday, many kids were creative and embodied a meme for meme day, as others sported white for white out. On the final day of spirit week, students went all out for blackout with face paint, bandannas, necklaces, hats, etc.
The theme for this year’s homecoming was cinema. Each hallway was decorated with tons of decorations to recreate a different movie. The freshmen took on Shrek, the sophomores encaptured Avengers: Endgame, the juniors had Harry Potter, and the seniors: The Wizard of Oz. At the end of the week, the teachers voted for the hallway they liked the most, and the sophomores won.
In anticipation of the weekend to come, students were fired up at the annual Homecoming Pep Assembly. Senior MCs Lindsay Boals, Parker Stephenson, Lucy Cronin, and Nick Ziegler, did a great job of getting the students excited and making sure events ran smoothly.
On Friday, South Lyon East took on Walled Lake Central at home for their Homecoming Game, ending with the cougars on top 49-6.
Donovan Wright had an outstanding night with 12 carries, 143 yards, 4 touchdowns and 14 tackles. Drew Ranson had an offensive touchdown and a pick-6 to put the cougars farther ahead, and Hannah Becker went 7-7 for the night.
There was a large turnout for the homecoming tailgate. Sports and clubs provided food and activities everyone, as students enjoyed themselves by hanging out with their classmates and promoting Cougar pride. The student section bleachers were packed with fans showing school spirit.
Multiple clubs were there to entertain at halftime: the Cougarettes, the Varsity Pom team, and the SLE Marching Band each had a performance. The SLE Choir also sang the national anthem before the game.
South Lyon East’s 2019 Homecoming Princes and Princesses were freshmen Gavin Clark and Dominique Sant, sophomores Max Gravell and Claire Merrick, juniors Josh Golab and Hailey Hartmann, and seniors Micheal Louvar, Morgan Aittama, Nate Dantzer, Madison Link, Manav Shah and Isabella Satti. Congratulations to the king and queen of the night: Donovan Wright and Lucy Cronin!
Homecoming took place on Saturday, finishing the week of fun activities with a bang.
