The annual Holiday Spectacular (formerly called “cool yule”) is quickly approaching and it comes with many festive activities here in South Lyon. It always occurs on the first Saturday of December, and the community is eager to welcome it back this year.

This event is a low cost fun family activity for everyone to enjoy. Here are some highlighted activities and information about them. For a full list, visit the Downtown Authority website or Facebook page. 

• Event: Candy Cane Hunt Time: 10:00 am Location: McHattie Park More Information: This event is free and for the ages of 3-10. The hunt will be split up into age groups and each group will have the chance to find a large multicolored candy cane for a prize! You will need to bring your own bags to fill up with as many candy canes as you can. You can also come early or stick around after to get pictures with Santa Clause

• Event: Christmas in the Country Holiday Shop Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Location: South Lyon High School More Information: You can buy a general admission tickets for $5.00 at the door or you can go online at eventbrite.com and buy their Early Bird tickets, which cost $8.00 to get inside the show an hour early and avoid the crowd. This event spotlights many creative artists in South Lyon. You can find unique crafts and even support local charities at this event

• Event: Shops open Time: 10:00 am – 9:00 pm Location: Downtown South Lyon More Information: The shops in South Lyon will be open all day for anyone to stop in and buy some potential holiday gifts

• Event: Live Reindeer Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Location: Olmstead Place Courtyard (N. of Venue) More Information: This event is as the name states, live reindeer are coming to South Lyon. You can take this opportunity to take a picture and even pet a reindeer.

• Event: Lunch With Santa Time: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Location: Lake St. Tavern More Information: If you want to catch Santa Clause early then you can join him and have lunch at Lake St. Tavern. You can take a picture with him if you’d like as well!

• Event: Cookies & Milk With Santa Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Location: South Lyon Hotel More Information: You can go to the hotel and have a treat with Santa. You can also take a picture with him here as well!

• Event: Visit With Santa Time: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Location: Venue parking lot More Information: Come meet with Santa and take some pictures with him. You can also tell him what you would like for Christmas if you so desire!

• Event: Chili and Hot Dogs Time: 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm Location: VFW Hall More Information: After being outside in the cold winter air, head to the VFW Hall to warm up with some hot, yummy food!

• Event: Warming Fires Time: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Location: Farmers Market Lot More Information: Another way to warm up is to stand by a roaring fire. Not only can you warm up, you can also take a break from all the other activities that have been going on throughout the day

• Event: Christmas House Tour Time: 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm Location: 216 E. Lake St. More Information: The Christmas house is a 19th century Victorian private residence. You can come and tour the beautifully decorated house, every room decorated in a unique fashion.

• Event: Ice Sculpture Demonstration Time: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Location: Norms Total Automotive More Information: This event is a cool way to see how an amazing artist can sculpt a block of ice into something beautiful. Stop by and see the amazing process!

• Event: Christmas at the Village Time: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Location: Historic village More Information: This event holds a bunch of different things such as Kiwanis tree sale, a bake sale, and another visit with Santa! 

• Event: Holiday Spectacular Lighted Parade Time: 6:00 pm Location: Downtown More Information: This is a free event that showcases many organizations in South Lyon. These include scout troops, the South Lyon and South Lyon East marching bands, all the first responders, dance teams, pom teams, and so much more. The parade lasts for about a half hour

• Event: Tree Lighting Time: 6:30 pm Location: Historic Village More Information: The tree lighting is a quick free event that is sure to spark joy in every person present, for it is a magical moment. 

• Event: Dance Spectacular Time: 7:00 pm – 7:45 pm Location: Corner of Lafayette St./ Lake St. More Information: This is a free event that anyone can come and partake in and it’s a great way to wrap up an amazing day.
