South Lyon East is hosting the Varsity Boy’s Basketball District Tournament this year on February 26, 28, and March 1.

The last time East hosted Districts was in 2017. Not all teams in the conference get a chance to host. East has been selected this year because of the quality of the facilities, geographically friendly location, and their specific request to host the event. Even though schools might meet the requirements, only the MHSAA can select the final host.

The Athletic Director at East will be responsible for several duties that week, such as all correspondence regarding game management to the visiting schools, providing game workers and equipment, site security, music, concessions, tickets, and team rosters. Coaches will also help manage the event with the Athletic Director.

Player Connor Lemmon said, “We are going to work hard and practice every day and push each other to keep improving”.

Purchasing tickets and getting into the game will be slightly different from the usual admissions. Students will have to buy tickets on the GoFan website for these games. No cash or athletic passes will be accepted. The pricing for each round will be as follows, District games will $7, Regional games will be $9, and Quarterfinals games will be $10 per person.

Hosting districts can be an exciting way to end the basketball season, but some can feel extra pressure.

Senior caption Grant Jagacki’s advice is, “Definitely just focus on the team and not focus on yourself too much and that’s how you’re going to get the win”.
