South Lyon East’s Winter Cabaret will be on December 7. Anyone is welcome to attend: friends, family, and students. The night will be full of singing, eating, and fun.
The Holiday Cabaret joins the South Lyon East choir and band together at Centennial Middle school, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Cabaret is a fundraiser mostly for the families, but anyone is welcome. Each choir level will be there: the Cougar Chorale, Bel Canto, and East Vocal Ensemble. Each will be singing one song, as well as small group performances and solos.
Senior Morgan Campbell shared how the choir has been preparing for the Cabaret, “We have already started working on songs and we are currently practicing three songs everyday.”
Typically, students from SLE get to see the choir perform some of these songs during the annual holiday assembly, in the auditorium, the day before winter break.
Another event choir is looking forward to this year is a trip to New York City May 21- 24.
Director Mr. Middaugh, says that about 60 to 70 percent of the students attend this trip. The choir will perform while they are there. The performance is more of a flash mob rather than a concert, Mr. Middaugh said. While on the trip, there are also opportunities for sight seeing and shopping on 5th Avenue. They are planning to see the musical Wicked.
Also in the Spring, the choir will be attending the regional Coral Festival again this year. “Judging is based on ratings,” says Middaugh, “We always have the top scores.”
“Choir has been like a family to me,” said senior Avery Oakley. Avery has been in choir for four years, and she is currently in the East Vocal Ensemble. Oakley explains this closeness, “ [It’s] being able to talk to them when I have a problem and the laughs we share during class.”
